I. OBJECTIVES:

• Use verbal communication to make introductions.

• Write, recognize, spell, and use letters of the alphabet (spelling).

• Use graphic organizers to group, study, and retain vocabulary.

• Listen attentively to stories, songs & rhymes that are told or read aloud.

• Develop the strategies, skills, and knowledge necessary to fluently read comprehend, and respond to a range of general and technical material.

• Identify and understand the story elements (plot).

• Understand author's purpose.

• Distinguish realism from fantasy.

• Make comparisons and contrasts in a selection.

• Respond creatively to a story.

• Learn and apply the right usage of the glossary.

• Create phonemic awareness through rhymes.

• Recognize, understand, build, spell, use, and write high-frequency words and selection vocabulary.

• Develop, learn and expand vocabulary trough listening, reading, and discussing.

• Identify, write, and distinguish between present and past tense verbs.

• Recognize, write, and use "to be" verbs: is, are, was, and were.
